Amber Sparks
1. THE DISPATCH
Arrivals
She lands at the airport, the wheels juddering beneath the plane’s frame, her hands pressed to the seat back in front. She walks through the door to her home; the door to his office; she opens the door of his car. She finds herself at an impasse, holding a tube of too-red lipstick, surfacing with no sense of direction. She pulls up to the driveway of the other woman. She arrives at a conclusion, unsatisfactory but definite. She steps off the train, too late; she’s left the best part of herself behind, barreling down the tracks toward a different kind of town.
